Gerry

Cream, Syrian, Female

Born Approximately: March 1, 1999, Bought: April 16, 1999.

Now: 13 months old

I'm a 13 month old, female cream Syrian. I am the senior hamster; I've got the most seniority amongst the hamsters in this Hamstery. For the first 2 weeks after I was brought to my new home I used to play dead every time I heard the cage door open. I would roll up in a ball and pretend to be sleeping, hoping these big creatures would not stick their hands in my cage and try to pick me up. It worked; they would close the door and try again the next day. This continued for some time, but what was nice about them was there was always fresh food put in my dish and fresh water. Also my cage was cleaned up every time I messed it up.

So one day, I decided to let them pick me up. They brought me out of my cage and their hands were quite warm and safe. It didn't seem so bad to be out. Sometimes would play in my ball and roam around their house and explore it. Soon I decided, that I love playing outside my cage and feeling the warmth of there hands. So now I'm happy to say I love my new home.

The favorite things I like to do are, biting on the bars of my cage to get out, if his doesn't get their attention, I attack my water bottle; this drives "them" crazy. It makes so much noise, and soon after my cage door opens (it worked again) and out I come.

My Favorite foods are, Broccoli, radicchio, brown rice, pasta and eggs. I just LOVE strawberry yogurt drops, but in moderation of course (I have to watch my waistline I'm told).

Toby

Cream, Syrian, Female

Born Approximately: August 2, 1999, Bought: September 16, 1999.

Now: 8 months old

When I was first brought to my new home, I was so nervous I used to hide so no one could see me. I would shake when I was walking hoping no one would see me and try and pick me up. I must say I do have a pretty foxy cage; I have a pink balcony & a yellow ladder going up to it. I also have a Wodent Wheel, which I love using every night and a tube leading out the side of my cage to my outpost, which I claimed as my bedroom (no pillow though).

I also love biting at my cage door; I got the knack of it. It is something that drives "them" crazy and in return I get out. When I bite at the door, I pull it back a bit and it snaps back, and then I grind my teeth on the bars (almost like chalk on a chalkboard). This really works; it's not to long before my gage door opens, (neat eh…..)

I love my "honey nut" treats for hammies (but lately they have been holding them back a bit) they said something about watching my weight (for hammies?). Well they could be right; I felt my tummy rubbing against the floor the other day. I wonder what is next for me, a mini gym for hammies?

Brandy

Cream banded, Syrian, Female.

Born Approximately: August 16, 1999, Bought: October 24, 1999.

Now: 8.5 months old

Hi, I'm Brandy, an 8-month-old cream banded and a Runt (I'm told). I am also told that I'm nervous, the worst of them all. If changes were made in my cage, in protest I would sit on my tree stump at the front of my cage door and stay there all night and sometimes the next night, until everything was put back to its original spot. So now nothing gets moved again…oh yeah! Sometimes they would try in a couple of weeks to move things around a bit, but I protest again and the next day everything is back just the way I like it.

I'm lucky enough to have a big cage that it can hold 2 wheels (different styles) which I Live for.

I like my foods too, veggies, broccoli and radicchio, egg, - ooh - and a fresh pear slice mmmm…, corn on the cob (what no butter).

Needless to say, I don't have to watch my weight; I'm half the size of my elders and the younger hammies.

Oh well, when everyone sees me, they think I'm the youngest of the 6, so I don't have to lie about my age (neat eh!)

Strawberry

Albino, Longhaired, Syrian, Female.

Born Approximately: August 23, 1999, Bought: November 6, 1999.

Now: 8 months old

I was very shy at first, I missed my sisters a lot, and especially the first couple of nights were so lonely for me. I remember crying in my sleep at night (no joke). I didn't want to come out of my cage for the longest time, maybe a couple of months, until I felt secure enough to venture out in the big world. I must say, it was left up to me entirely if I wanted out of my cage or not. They would hold out their hands for me or put a ball bought just for me to my door and left it up to me if I wished to come out. I was never forced or chased around the cage; it was all up to me. I was so unsure and shy so I decided to stay in my Wodent Wheel and play. They would come to the door and talk to me a lot and give me some yummy treats, but yet I still did not feel secure enough to come out. After time I tried coming out and now you can't keep me in.

P.S. I'm also a cage biter, but I specialize in water bottle attacking.

Blackie

Sable, Syrian, Female

Born Approximately: September 27, 1999, Bought: November 12, 1999.

Now: 6 months old

I'm the active one, I can play for hours, and because of this I have 2 cages connected by tubes. When I get tired/bored with one cage, I can run over to the other cage and play in the one with a ball on a stand in it. So it's cage #1: with a wheel or cage #2: with a ball on a stand that you can run in, neat!

When I'm out in my ball exploring the house they thought of installing stops signs and speed limits (Petticoat Creek Hamstery Autobahn). I don't stop for anything moving (even the cat), did I run over his tail again, (sorry…hehehe). I run so fast in "it", nobody better get in my way or watch out. If they put me back in my cage before I'm ready to go in, I go right over and attack my water bottle in protest or I'll grind my teeth on the bars (this usually works)!

My favorite thing is sleeping in a fluffy bed with lots of shredded toilet paper. I wish sometimes they would just leave the roll in my cage so I can help myself.

Ruby

Cream banded, Syrian, Female.

Born Approximately: October 18, 1999, Bought: December 4, 1999.

Now: 5.5 months old

Well I'm not nervous or was I a cage biter. I got my name because it matches my eyes (Ruby). I'm the second smallest (kind of a runt too), but I don't have any bad habits to talk about.

I'm very clean and I like my cage neat & orderly. Sometimes theses "people' would open my cage door and drop food in the entrance. (Did they forget where my food dish is?) Don't they realize I have to go over and pick it up and bring it to the proper place, my food dish! I hope they pick up the message soon. As soon as they put the food down, I would strut over while they were watching and in a huff, drag it to my dish. (All the nerve of them) … cute eh!

I'm also a night owl, I can stay up the longest of them all, 10:00 PM to 06:00 AM no sweat…. even when these "people" shut off everything, I'll still play. I don't want to miss anything. In the morning, I'm waiting for breakfast when someone gets up.

When I see the crack of dawn, I sleepily retire to my bed and wait for the next day.

EMMA

Cream banded, Syrian, Female.

Born Approximately: May 26, 1998, RESCUED: May 26, 2000.

Now: 24 months old

My name is Emma. I'm about 2 years old. I was purchased / rescued on May 26, 2000.  My new owners do not know anything about me, as I was left at the doorstep of an animal shelter (Scarborough Animal Shelter) by previous owners.  They treated us well for a couple of years and took us to a place to care for us when they could not do it any longer.  Marlene also adopted Victoria, who is my sister and / or friend.  I have only one eye, reason's unknown to them, but I'm lucky enough to have found a nice home in my golden years.  I'm very friendly and I can get around quiet nicely with only one eye.  I do not bite and I really like running in my ball a lot.  Although they rescued me at 2 years, I really think we'll get along quiet nicely.  In return, I have a loving home for the time that I have left, to enjoy myself with my new owners, whom I'm lucky to have found.  You should see the meals we get, at the attention each day by hand!

I was named after another Hamster, Emma, who lived with my owners Granddaughter Jessica until Emma died and went to the Rainbow Bridge.
